The fact is though...

the one thing worse for any politician than lying to the electorate is telling it the truth. It's been amply demonstrated over and over again that people would rather vote for someone who tells them a lie they want to believe rather than someone who tells the truth. No-one who tells the truth (we have all these immigrants because we have all these pensioners) would ever have a prayer in an election.
