Despite the dismal trajectory of the last three months the whole season hasn't been a disaster. For me there are clearly disruptors in the dressing room likely those who already know they are going to be released. Knapper is probably betting with a refreshed squad JHT reproduce the form of the first 30 games for the whole of next season. It's a big ask...
