But off the cuff not convinced the logic holds water. As shown by the Chinese ban on sales of REM, self sufficiency is not possible for any country - although I take the point it’s about degrees not absolutes, so you can always become a bit more prepared. But the standing logic has been that the sole power of the great nations is indeed a lot of power, but not enough to operate on a global scale. Hence why you project soft power through aid, alliance and support. Basically all of that “waste” that Elon has been terminating, which makes far away countries take your side in whatever debate because you give them a lot of help with ostensibly nothing in return. Trump et al just thought that was money for nothing, when it clearly isn’t. It’s why China has become so active all over the place, investing in nations, buying and building infra, basically currying favour.

But I shall watch with interest.
