We are just like most countries, we vote people in (or don't revolt) based on bulls**t lies and promises.

When that doesn't work, we vote in the next bunch of grifters.

What you rely on is the capitalist model to influence policy as companies like to make money.

The "real owners" as Carlin liked to say.
