has very rapidly become something between a banana republic and a fully operational fascist state. Travelling to places like this is always risky, especially now when there seems to be a real desire to "make an example" of foreigners who are apparently taking things from America and laughing at them.
I know it sounds a bit mental to say that the US is a fascist state, but it meets the admittedly hard to pin down definition.
- dictatorial leadership
- contempt for electoral democracy
- contempt for political and cultural liberalism
- belief in natural social hierarchy and the rule of elites
- desire to create a state in which individual interests are subordinated to the good of the nation
- forcible suppression of opposition
- centralized autocratic government
- militaristic nationalism
Not much debate about most of those being present, and key planks of what Trump has put in place? The history books tell us it never ends well of course. Took the Germans about 12 years to shake off their little experiment with fascism.
