I know you are trolling but he was knighted for

being better than Bobby Robson, who had been knighted, and also for having done better than any England manager since Alf Ramsey who was also knighted.

And yes he had a good squad, but relatively to the time so did not only Ramsey and Robson, but also Eriksson and Capello. Possibly even Hoddle and Venables.
