You do not have to be a older player to have leadership and league knowledge,

But I do take your point that does tend to be the case. Barnes did have the impact we wanted on the pitch but his impact on others was clear. Look at how Sarge improved with him here, also several times it’s been noted they became good mates.

If we continue to buy the way we have been then it unlikely the players mature / developed / become successful together so we will be in an endless cycle of selling off the one prize assets. Personally I would like more focus on improving the collective.


The club talked for years on players pathways and not blocking them. The Doyle, Crisene and Jose example is a perfect example of how this has become muddled. The Doyle loan would have been a decent chunk of change.
