it's almost as if we are going to have to accept that the government can't afford to be involved in every aspect of our lives, and do every last thing that every last person thinks s/he is entitled to ... but that mindshift is so far from the prevailing mood of our culture that, in my considered view, we are utterly and completely f**ked
