I'm guessing the club do want to re-sign him but their contract valuations are currently way apart.
Clearly the club is in the mode of cutting big contracts not giving them out.
Its tricky because how valuable is a goalkeeper compared to say a top striker.
Its a money ball thing in terms of production and ability to effect games.
I think most people overvalue keepers in PPG.
They tend to remember the great saves and the real howlers.
Which kind of even out for most keepers.
Clearly you want the best keeper but what is the PPG difference between a great keeper and a good keeper at one third the price.
Probably not as much as we think.
Would the money ball saving allow you to bring in 1-3 other players that would have a greater effect on the PPG.
