NATO expansion east:

AKA democratic countries choosing to join an alliance of equal partners.

Russia expansion west: AKA full scale hostile military invasion of a sovereign state.

I agree the very existence of NATO is one half of the problem and it should have declared its intent to self abolish in about 2004, with Russian membership a precursor but that never happened.

The idea that NATO expansion and Russian expansion are the same is ridiculous - unless and until a NATO member launches a military invasion of Russia.

Which thankfully now seems unlikely.
