Not only was it the wrong candidate but by having a brief contest they would have owned the media cycles during it. Harris did better than I thought she would as a campaigner but not well enough and they certainly had better available.

And astoundingly and depressingly I think you’re right on gender. There were lots of interviews with American women saying it was more natural for a man to lead. Which I simply don’t understand - I’ve been lucky enough to work with brilliant leaders of both genders - but it is what it is.
