The big question is NATO membership. Give up Donbas (with its rich mineral resources) and Crimea permanently but get to join NATO might be the shape of something Zelenskyy would settle for. Putin would never agree to anything that lets Ukraine join NATO because in a few years he wants to come back for more, oh and by the way Moldova or at least Transnistra as a first step.


I don’t see a way to square this circle and I fear for what Trump will try to impose.


I also question the future of NATO given Trumps attitude to it. We might need to join - form, even - a European defence alliance (nothing to do with the EU).
