Thats the problem

Trying to change the formation to accomodate all the best players rather than the other way round.

Fact is that both lampard and gerrard are twice as effective playing for their clubs as they are for England. lampard is at his best when he plays with makalele and Gerrard with Hamman or Alonso/Sissoko. Both regularly turn in match winning performances in the league and in the European Cup when they are playing top quality midfeilds who are as good as most international teams.
