In January 1954 Matthews was at CR for Harry Proctor's Benefit Match

The programme listed him at #7 BUT Blackpool refused to let him play.

According to the brilliant 'NCFC The Archive' Matthews was lino for the first half, but spent much of the time signing autographs.
