It's not the genius point that you think it is though

Variance is high for lots of teams at the start of the season, especially if they have had manager / player churn.

Even for teams that you expect to finish higher or lower there is variance.

So you are just pointing out one of the basic features of competitive sport.

Plus you did it in response to a question about optimism / pessimism which is a completely different thing.
