I’d file this in the same tray as when the courts suddenly started dishing out disproportionate sentences for mobile phone snatching about 15 years ago - trying to achieve a deterrent effect against a new social evil

Also, inciting a mob to burn down a hostel bloody deserves a long sentence. If she’d been standing there with a megaphone it wouldn’t even be in issue. People have to realise that social media have consequences
