Although I would think that ordinarily if the event happens in 2025, it would be in the tax return due 15th April 2026, and any elections being made before the 15th April 2025 deadline would relate to events in 2024.

But..... I have very limited knowledge of US tax, so there could be some relevance to it.

What I can say for sure though, (I think), is the UK tax year end of 5th April is of no relevance.
