I hate VAR, but that seems a very naive take on modern day football.

Whether match-going fans enjoy the experience or not doesn't register with the administrators of the game at the top level. If they don't like it and stop going, then there will be someone else to take their place and stop that seat from being empty on the TV coverage.

Football, as the author sees it, is dead at the top level. Unless that changes (which seems unlikely), they either have to accept it or support the game from below the top level.
