Taking a look at the band lists from the LCR and Waterfront its mostly tribute acts.
WTF happened.
I worked for Nick Raynes in the 90s while a UEA student and it was a great line up of original live acts and Stand up with some club nights thrown in.
There was the occasional tribute act.

Maybe because there is no money in selling records anymore and all the money is made for touring so 1500 capacity venues don't make sense if you want to make money.
