There will always be a cliff edge, the only solution is to continue to improve the tech

Building any kind of margin for error doesn’t change that there is a cliff edge.

You could switch to an “umpires call” type approach, but I don’t think that would be fairer or result in more accurate decisions.

I think the binary approach of var to offside is correct, but the tech needs to continue to improve to reduce the margin of error, while also being faster. I’m yet to really see a suggestion that deals with the issue of marginal calls that I think would lead to a fairer outcome. Every team gets burned by these margins at some point or another, which is simply a product of offside being binary as a matter of the rules of the game; there is no subjectivity.
