Brighton was my first marathon, was hoping for sub 4 and was at around 5:25/5:30 km for quite a while but did 4:22, including an emergency pit stop so may well have been under 4:18.
I did the MK20 miler three weeks before in 2:53 but conditions were perfect - cool and no wind. Brighton was very different, around 14C and breeze was 24 mph and felt like it was mostly off the sea and a cross wind. So that made it harder, (plus I am 60 next month and that doesn’t help!)
Last 10k was brutal, the wall hit me as opposed to me hitting the wall.
Spent the last few km saying to myself “I just want this to be over” and Sunday evening working out where to run my 2nd marathon, will probably be Abingdon. Legs mostly ok now a week later.
