If McCallum gets close to the winger on the touchline

then there is a big ol' gap on his inside into which a ball can be played.

The FB not hugging the touchline has been the case for years. I reckon the answer is about percentages, as I suspect that a winger running at a FB from the touchline is lower-risk than a winger running into the box chasing a ball that has been played inside the FB.
