Started when a bloke lights about cigarette

Extended to 100 miles (why?!?) in 1989

Have to write an essay as to why you should be allowed to run it

Pay an entrance fee of $1.60

Must find 9 to 14 books along the course and tear out the page of their race number to prove it

The direction participants run on the fifth loop of the course is decided by who's leading

Sounds absolutely bonkers
