I got to a point when I'd have supported sacking him

can't recall when it was, but having been patient, I thought the end had come. Since then, gradually, he's brought me round - we've played some wonderful football, scored goals, taken points and we're in the top 6 - he's also a decent man, and v popular (it seems) with the squad. It's very easy to think you can do better - sack someone, get someone new in, all will be transformed - but real, messy life is rarely as easy as that, and the consequences are v difficult to predict (see Farke) - as matters stand, I think we're going in a good direction, we've got good foundations, and come what may I'd give him another year (in a sense, hopefully in the Champs, and smashing it) - to change now would be to go back to the drawing board.
