If you compare us and them, I’d say that’s the main difference, although there are many others.
We are so passive in comparison, we play in front of the opposition too much, particularly with Gibson and Hanley at the back and without Nunez in midfield.
I think there are two methods for success in the championship:
1) be miles ahead technically - only really works with a midfield magician like buendia or dewsbury hall; or
2) play with pace, power and intensity - if you don’t have that massive technical advantage, you need to be able to overwhelm the opposition with something else.
We seem to tend towards 1) when we don’t really have the players for it. We should be aiming for 2), but at the moment we’re sitting in the middle. Recently our intensity at home has been much better, but it slipped v Sunderland and i didn’t like what I saw after we went ahead last night. For me it comes down to finding the right combo of centre backs and cm’s, and Gibson + Hanley and McLean + Sara isn’t it.
