While I'm happy to believe the US consistently lies about most things

they do not ruthlessly kill their own private citizens (although they have allowed proxies to do so to their own people in other countries - South Vietnam, East Timor, Indonesia, Chile (the other 9/11 incidentally), Argentina, etc., etc.).

With a compliant media in close attention they don't need to - the lies that lead to the invasion of Iraq being a case in point. Read some Chomsky - the classic "Manufacturing Consent" is a good starting point.
