more the fact there have been English settlers in Ireland since the 1100s, if not earlier, and Irish settlers in Britain since time immemorial.

The fact they were a part of Britain in the last century. strong political and economic links. Many people have Irish blood somewhere in their family tree. Irish soldiers have fought for Britain in just about every war, and still do.

Like I say, very close historical ties. To say we 'let them starve' shows a profound ignorance of the famines and the social, policitcal and environmental causes. (Thats not to say English politicians had clean hands over it, by any means)
