Same principle as obstructing the keepers line of sight

My thought process, without having checked how this tallies with the law, is that the offside rule should capture all instances of an attacker gaining an advantage that arises from being offside.

He could only block the defender because he was offside. Advantaged gained by being offside, therefore offence committed.
