I think you make some very fair points and it's an interesting discussion

However, the 'affordability' of old age is a hot topic now. The amount that pensioners must live on to enjoy a comfortable salary has shot up, and the value of private pensions has gone down.

I'm not saying your argument is unreasonable, but the timing is unfortunate.
