Not really. I don't mind the DOF role but the problem we had was that Webber did not

do what you are supposed to do as DOF which is ensure continuity of style when recruiting new coaches so that a change of coach does not de-rail you. See Brighton for example.

Firstly his recruitment went off on a bizarre tangent when we got promoted the second time under Farke and he brought in a load of players not remotely suited to how Farke wanted to play (who knows whether with or without Farke's blessing) and then when he sacked Farke he clearly did not have a suitable candidate lined up with a similar style of play. Indeed when he sacked Smith he still didn't have that although perhaps that Knutsen would have been a possibility had the timings been different. The whole point of a DOF is that there is continuity in terms of style of play, approach and the thinking at the club on key football matters. We have just been all over the place.

PS I don't always need someone to blame but when a team is under performing you should not just accept it.
