Whether that's fair or not.
We probably all thought we would beat QPR - that we SHOULD beat them. And we didnt. And people looked at the team and formation and thought hmmm, really? And then we didnt dominate. And we conceded a stupid goal from a throw. But we also came from behind again, and seemed set to fight back and win, and showed some real glimpses of what we've got. But then we had injuries at bad times. And the subs didnt seem to make sense, and seemed to really negatively effect us. And it all, in the end, feels a bit.....crap....and a bit of a let down. Compared to last week. Compared to what we would hope from a playoff chasing team, versus relegation fodder.
All of this just leads to two schools of thought doesnt it?
- Wagner and his management team are just not very good. They take poor decisions around line up/tactics, and it costs us points.
- Wagner is doing alright, and this is really just "the maximum speed of the vehicle", i.e. the squad is not THAT good.
I guess we won't ever know for sure which of these views is right. Another manager is not going to get another go with this squad. And if/when we dont go up this season, then this squad is going to be broken apart, and will look very different next season.
For what it's worth though, I do think that the league is s**t this year other than the top 3 (i.e. the relegated teams), and i think we're part of that s**t. On our hot days we can just about match the big teams, but mostly not quite. Everyone else, including us, is just varying shades of ordinary grey. Wagner may be contributing to that, but utlimately we're just not THAT good.
