There's a lot of that around this area

getting seduced by the pretty maths (I'm a mathematician by training and follow along as a sad hobbyist). For example M theory is or could be an amazing piece of mathematics, and Ed Witten is an undoubted genius. How physical any of it actually is, or how possible it is to make testable predictions - or will ever be - is really, really unclear to me.
