I am guessing that you are from USA.

Not sure if what passes for bacon in the States it would make any difference whether it is smoked or unsmoked. Tasteless and overcooked to within an inch of its life. The only time I ever found any decent stuff was in a hotel in NYC where it was called, bizarrely, "Canadian Bacon ".
