IMHO coaching ability is a bit overrated.

Not saying it isn't a factor, but the truth is you can't polish a turd.
If you don't have the player quality, you are unlikely to be successful over the whole season of 46 games.

In all professional sports its mostly down to the players.....and you can't sack the players so often the coach takes the bullet.

Often teams pick up briefly when a new manager comes in but I think that has little to do with the manager and more to do with player motivation.
