But to be fair, I went 25 yrs ago, pre Kuta bomb.

I stayed in Ubud. I had no idea how small the town was. Street hustlers followed us and hassled us from the moment we entered the main street. They hassled for about 25metres until the end if their zone, then someone else took over. Result was someone constantly hassling us the entire time we were walking. It was irritating and tiring and really put me off. I don't have many positive memories of it, to be honest.
