Yup. We were in the odd position where

My dentist had gone private and I couldn't get an appointment but my wife and son's dentist was still doing NHS work (in the same surgery).
She had a chronic toothache earlier in the year. She was told she'd have to wait 2 weeks to see someone, but could pay to see my old dentist privately later that day.

They've now moved me to their sister surgery an hour's drive away and I got my first check up in 3 years a few weeks ago.

The receptionist told my wife off the record that the NHS dentists made a very good living but there was more to be made privately, particularly with cosmetic work.

This is probably supported by the Porsches and top of the range private plated Mercs in the car park.
