One part of this sounds good

The part about surrounding the ref. Not a fan of egg chasing but rugby has it right when it comes to respect shown to the ref on the field of play.

The VAR stuff is a major crock of s**t, tbf, and even though I suspect it's cost us a little this season I'm still much happier watching our games without VAR than I was watching our games with VAR. I like the cricket model - each team could have, say, two challenges per half, and if your challenge is upheld you don't "lose" that challenge. Only the captains have the right to invoke and must be within five (ten?) seconds of an incident. Offside can surely be automated by those sports bras they all wear these days (which would get past the nonsense of someone's little fingernail being 0.03mm over the "line").
