IMHO it will be much easier for Knapper if Wagner is sacked before he starts.

The 14 day break is a perfect opportunity to get someone in.

IMHO I would be absolutely shocked if Knapper hasn't already been involved in looking for the next manager.
Every serious business has a continuity plan.
