I am going to disagree in a rational manner......

In the past we have seen owners/boards of various clubs make an actual official announcement such as a vote of confidence.
This is often done to placate the fans when times are rough.
It lets the fans know they are watching the situation closely.

In this case this looked to be a private conversation which I think Wagner should have kept to himself IMHO.
Delia/MWJ probably felt bad for Wagner after getting the brutal chants from the fans.
If a decision had not been made at the time of the call then its perfectly fair to offer support to the manager.
Why wouldnt you?

IMHO these two situations are totally different.
