The comparison is a bit basic for me

It doesn't seem to take into account the huge inflation in transfer fees seen across the period. My perception is NCFC is much less able to compete financially now (or earlier in the Webber era) than we were under McNally. For example, I don't think there is any chance we could have signed a player equivalent to Nathan Redmond in 2019. Also, would we be signing players of the quality of Howson and Snodgrass from a championship side like Leeds for amounts we can comfortably afford if we were in the PL now? I don't think so - how much did Sheff United pay for Hamer? £15m?

It also doesn't seem to give real credit for bringing youth players through (other than a small acknowledgement). I know it's a point that is not possible to quantify as we don't know what would have happened to them if McNally were the boss. However, Webber did do well to get the fees that we did for Lewis, Godfrey, Maddison etc..

I'm not defending Webber per se, just think a bit more balance is needed. Football finance has changed hugely and NCFC has been left behind in that time.

FWIW, I really liked McNally. It was a really enjoyable period to support NCFC. For the most part, the Webber era has been pretty good too. Perhaps Dave Bowers should add an extra column to compare them both with Neil Doncaster?
