The idea of signing 3 or 4 players in the £8m - £10m bracket that would completely change our style and be effective in the prem was the only option, but also nigh on impossible to achieve.

The only possible alternative would have been trying to directly replace Buendia, which would have been impossible, and inevitably we would have signed someone not as good for similar money. We already knew that even with Buendia, we’d be relegated (as we were the last time), so we’d have no chance with a lesser alternative.

Long winded way of agreeing with you. Our budget constrains us, it leaves no margin for recruitment errors. Transfers are inherently risky, loads don’t work out, expecting us to get every single one right is unrealistic. Could Webber’s signings have been better? Absolutely.
