I kind of disagree a bit

In many ways Smith was a sensible appointment. He knew the prem, he knew how to get out of the championship. He was good at bringing through young players. He was also willing to come here and have f**k all to spend. Not many managers would. The biggest question was whether he was up for the job after his sacking, and that remained an issue throughout his reign.

The big reset should have been last summer. They thought they could do another bounce back but the squad was tired and the remains of Farke's. Pukki should have left (amongst others) and Smith should have been given more scope to build a new team in his own vision. Instead he mostly had to work with what he was given plus a couple of signings.

Wagner was a reaction to Smith's disconnection and still struggled with a disjointed squad last year. However, this season he has been able to sign players he wants.

This season he has much less excuse and the woes are mostly down to his tactical weaknesses. i don't think we are as bad as the table suggests but we do need someone who can work out how the get the best out of this group of players and stop leaking ridiculous goals.
