The students on my French school trip

did exactly the same.

The girls (if I recall correctly) bought stinky French cheeses. Then proceeded to leave them on the coach for the remainder of our trip - we were pretty much stunk out!!

The boys mostly bought bangers and throwing stars. However the shops of Mont St Michel were more than happy to sell flick knives to 14 year olds which didn't go down well with the teaching staff.

Getting 'tooled up' wasn't on the itinerary.
