I have a 42" Panasonic plasma...

and have to say it's a fantastc all rounder. Great sound and vision... no qualms whatsoever. If you haven't already, go to a large Currys or other electrical store and take your time looking at all the TVs on display, and decide upon what picture looks the best to you, that falls within your budget. That's the way I decided on what make I was going to get, then purchased it on-line from Panasonic (got free wall installation and DVD-R too) and a generous post Christmas deal. Have had it nearly 18 months now... sadly not HD Ready though, which is why I propbably got the generous discount.

There is a bit of stigma with Plasma, that the plasma gas will burn out eventually (8-10 years) is being mentioned... but isn't that roughly the frequency with which people change their sets anyway?

LCD is good, and it is worth considering LG and Samsung for picture quality and good vfm. I've seen the LG High Def sets in action. Simply stunning.
