Property prices may be a big sticking point for you.
Not sure what you would be looking to sell and buy for but a three bed semi in the area i live in between Southampton & Portsmouth go for about 170k.
My daughter rents a 2 bed semi in the area for ?575.00 per month. So it's not cheap.
On the flip side there is almost zero unemployment in the area.
I struggle to recruit but the service industries are low payers so i probably always will.
There are some not very nice areas in Southampton but as with everthing else the house prices dictate the type of area you live in.
The further you go into the new forest. The pricier it gets.
However there are nice areas on the periferies of Southampton and there is always one huge advantage.
You can become a member of the Hampshire Canaries!
The only thing i don't like about living down South is the distance from the Fine City but thanks to our little group i can still get to games at a reasonable cost.
Let us know how you get on.
And Good Luck.
