The role of the CM that drops into defence is key to the Wagner style. Kenny did a good job of it for someone who doesn’t naturally play that role, but it was clear I thought that we needed to sign someone to play that role.

Everyone agreed major surgery was needed to transform the squad into something that would be competitive at the top end of the championship next season, so far I wouldn’t describe what we’ve done as major surgery. We’ve tweaked things, but the core is largely the same.

I wouldn’t say the squad is better now than it was a year ago, not sure it’s even as good.

However, surely there is going to be some movement soon. Aarons will surely leave, as will Rashica, problem is it looks like both of those, particularly the latter, could drag to the end of the window.
