I honestly don't see the logic behind Russia using nuclear weapons or blowing up a station

Surely Russia would also have to deal with the radioactivity for years even if they pulled out of the Ukraine? It's not like it stops at the border.

It's also a very dangerous game because what happens if they launch a nuke at Ukraine? I might be wrong but I would think it wouldn't be obvious what the target was until the last second, so there has to be the possibility of a nuclear response on Russia and hello MAD scenario.

It seems to me that before the war was even started, Russia assumed that nobody would help Ukraine because Russia was a nuclear power. However, they now seem frustrated that their nuclear deterrent isn't quite the deterrent they thought it was, and are scrambling with rhetoric and rumours to somehow try to restore the fear and strengthen the deterrent.

At least I hope I'm right of course. I think if any are used then it's likely that we are all toast. I am taking comfort in the fact that there have been many leaders who were as, if not even more psycho than Putin and his generals with a nuclear arsenal at their disposal yet still nobody has used a nuclear bomb since 1945.
