I doubt any of us do. It smells like a staged coup to me.

Gives Putin an excuse to do an Erdogan-style clear out of all he suspects opposes him.

Would be odd for Prigozhin to go along with it though, knowing that if he doesn’t end up dead or in a gulag now, Putin will look weak, but maybe he was manipulated into it?
