You see a conspiracy in everything.

The story appears to be that the implosion happened on Sunday at the same time communications were lost to the support ship. At that time the search and rescue had not begun. The US Navy did record a sound which in hindsight now seems likely to have been the implosion but at the time was not definitive. If you remember there were multiple reports of banging sounds. The reason the sub was found yesterday was that it was the first time they were able to deploy a more advance ROV.
