We probably would have added some runs, yes

We don't know how many, or how many overs would have been used up.

The game would have just been different. Impossible to say if it would have been better or worse for England.

But, given we went into the second innings with a lead, surely the most obvious things to blame if we go on to lose are:

1. Missed chances when Australia were batting that would have given us a bigger lead; and
2. Not batting well enough in the second innings

Even if we lose, I'd point to those two factors as being decisive rather than the timing of the declaration.
